Every Friday Brie, from Capital Mom, posts a theme / topic and if you like you can join her by writing about a moment related to that theme/ topic the following Monday. This week’s Monday Moment is Unexpected.

“BUG! BUG!” you shriek, as you rip the bright yellow crocs back off your feet. And sure enough, out crawls an earwig.

We had made such progress. The impromptu lesson, “why we don’t stand on an ant-hill”, finally forgotten. Bugs had gone back to being interesting, after Daddy had showed you how he could make one crawl across his arm, and no harm done.

(If you discount the suppressed shudders that he himself had had to endure.)

And who can blame you? Not I. Not when my own skin crawls at the thought of something so… unexpected.

The Pitter-Patter of Little Feet

This morning, we were joined in the bed by

thump… pit-pat pit-pat pit-pat… flop

a very large dog,

pit-pat pit-pat-pit-pat … pit-pat pit-pat-pit-pat … foomp

a rather smaller llama

pit-pat pit-pat-pit-pat … pit-pat pit-pat-pit-pat … whack

three board books,

pit-pat pit-pat-pit-pat … pit-pat pit-pat-pit-pat … slither

a beach towel, a sofa pillow,

and a two-year old, who promptly went back to sleep.

In this house, you have to expect the unexpected.
